Watercolor painting made by Princess Beatrix sells for over eight thousand euros
A watercolor painting made by Princess Beatrix, presumably in 1950, sold for 8,500 euros at an auction in Wommels, Friesland, earlier this week. The sale was announced on the website of the auction house, Ald Fryslán.
The work depicts girls or young women in colorful dresses, and is signed "Trix." She would have been about 12 or 13 years of age when she produced the painting which measures 50.5 by 63 centimeters.
It had been auctioned once before in 2006 by Sotheby's in Amsterdam. It was bought for just under 12,000 euros. The buyer was a private citizen from Friesland who has now sold more than 200 works, including the Beatrix painting.
A different watercolor painting by Beatrix, Horses in the Pasture, was sold via auction website Catawiki in 2016. It was made when the princess was 14 and sold for almost 5,000 euros.
The princess is currently 86 years old. She is also considered by many to be a decent sculptor.
