Police investigating threat against Health Min. De Jonge

The police are investigating a tweet that linked gallows to Health Minister Hugo de Jonge. The police confirmed this after reporting by Hart van Nederland.

A wooden gallows was present at a demonstration against the coronavirus rules in Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon. The police are not investigating that. A police spokesperson said that taking a gallows with you is not punishable in itself if you don't link it to, for example, a threat to a person.

In the Twitter post, the user seemed to share a photo of the gallows in Amsterdam, linking it textually to the Minister of Healthcare, including the hashtags #QRankzinnig and #3oktoberAmsterdam. The user's account was deleted, but other Twitter users captured the original tweet. It resulted in a lot of outrage on the social media platform.

The police spokesperson said that the demonstration in Amsterdam went smoothly. "We made two arrests: one for insult and one for setting off fireworks."

According to the municipality of Amsterdam, based on police estimates, about 25,000 people took part in the demonstration. The Strabo Research Bureau, which counted on its initiative, arrived at approximately the same number of demonstrators.
