Molotov cocktails thrown at Groningen journalist's home

Groningen journalist Willem Groeneveld was woken by the sound of Molotov cocktails being thrown through his window during the early hours of Thursday morning, Dagblad van het Noorden reports.

The Molotov cocktails started a fire in the home, but Groeneveld and his partner were able to extinguish it safely. Both Groeneveld, who works for the Groningen city blog Sikkom, and his partner were uninjured.

The police are investigating. A spokesperson told the newspaper that the police are taking the incident very seriously, but would not speculate about a possible motive.

According to Dagblad van Het Noorden, Groeneveld's address was recently published online. Whether this is connected to Thursday morning's attack, is unclear.

The Groningen journalist recently told Villamedia that he is often afraid when walking through the city. He often faces intimidation and threats, and his windows were previously smashed, he said.
