Dutch police arrest suspect after Belgium's 2,000 kilogram cocaine bust

Police in the Netherlands announced on Monday the arrest of a 25-year-old Rotterdam man in connection with the discovery of 2,019 kilograms of cocaine at the Port of Antwerp in Belgium. The arrest took place weeks ago on November 27 after the cocaine was found in a sea container by Belgian customs officials, Dutch police said.

The cocaine was found in a shipment of fertilizer that originated in Colombia. The container was destined for the Netherlands.

After the discovery, Federal Police in Belgium seized the cocaine and contacted their Dutch counterparts. The sea container was released and tracked as it made its way to the Netherlands, and then to a company in Alphen, Noord-Brabant.

Dutch police then searched the Alphen warehouse, arresting the Rotterdam man in the process. More arrests are possible, Dutch authorities said.
