Three shot at McDonald's in Den Helder; 1 at large

Three people were hurt in a shooting at a McDonald's restaurant in Den Helder. One of those suspected in the shooting was arrested while police say a second suspect is still on the loose.

The incident happened just before midnight on Friday along the Verkeerstorenweg in the quiet Noord-Holland city. Police said the victims were sitting in a car when the gunmen arrived on a scooter and opened fire.

A 48-year-old man from Leeuwarden was arrested. Police said he was caught on the scooter used as a getaway vehicle.

The three men in the car include a 27-year-old from Hollands Kroon, and two others from Den Helder. They are 24 and 21 years of age, police said.

Three ambulances were dispatched to the scene along with a helicopter carrying a trauma team. Two victims were transported to a hospital, and their condition was not revealed. Police later said their injuries were not life threatening. The third person was treated at the scene and released.

The suspect in custody was arrested within a half-hour of the shooting. He was in solitary confinement on Saturday, and was only allowed contact with legal representation.

A description of the second suspect was not immediately available. Authorities used a tracking dog and a helicopter to find the suspect, to no avail.

Anyone with knowledge of the person's whereabouts, and anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area was asked to contact police.
