Rotterdam woman released from Turkish custody; still can't leave the country

A Rotterdam woman detained in Turkey on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization, was released from custody on Tuesday by the court in Istanbul. However, she has to stay in Turkey at least until her next hearing on October 3rd, NOS reports.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested at the airport in Istanbul with her 5-month-old daughter in April. After a short trip in Turkey, she was on her way to return to the Netherlands. She and her baby have been in custody since.

The Rotterdam woman worked for Demned, an organization that connects different communities from Kurdish territory. She was involved in discussions between Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb and Turkish and Kurdish groups in the city in 2015 and 2016. According to the Turkish authorities, this Demned is affiliated with the Kurdish PKK.

If she is found guilty, the woman can face up to 15 years in prison, according to the broadcaster.
