Dutch police aim to recruit 17,000 cops in 7 years
The Dutch police want to recruit 17 thousand new police officers in the next seven years. To help achieve this, the police launched a large recruitment campaign on the internet, the television, social media and the street on Tuesday.
The campaign aims to show the many tasks that police officers perform on a daily basis, as well as the person behind the uniform. Multiple police officers tell what being a cop is like in campaign videos. "Because only if you really understand what is involved in police work, you can choose it with all your heart", the police said.
According to the police, cops need to be strong and flexible at the same time. They must be able to switch effortlessly between intervening in a situation and calming it down. "You need to have a lot to start with and at the same time be prepared to further develop your qualities. You'll look at the world and yourself differently. You'll learn, experience and grow. Being a police officer is not something you do. It's something you are with everything you have in you."
More information about the requirements for becoming a police officer can be found on the campaign site. If you make it through the training, you are guaranteed a job, the police stressed.
