Rotterdam to bill Kingsland festival for confetti cleanup after record attempt

An attempt to break a confetti record at the Kingsland festival in Rotterdam on King's Day, will cost the festival thousands of euros. The site where the festival was held in Rotterdam was not cleaned up properly after the attempt. The municipality of Rotterdam is now cleaning the confetti up itself, and will send the bill to Kingsland, RTV Rijnmond reports.

The organization behind Kingsland wanted to break the confetti world record. The municipality of Rotterdam gave permission for this, provided that the confetti be cleaned up afterwards. The organization had until Tuesday night to clean everything up, a spokesperson for the municipality said to the broadcaster. "And although it can be seen that they did their best, it really wasn't good enough."

According to the spokesperson, there is still confetti in multiple places in the bushes and grass near Ahoy Rotterdam. "We will be cleaning up for at least two more days." The municipality called it a shame that they now have to organize the cleaning of the site. "We clearly stated the requirements in the permit. They didn't manage to get everything clean, even though we gave them quite some time", the spokesperson said.

It is not yet clear what the cleaning will cost, but the municipality expects the amount to rise to a few thousand euros.

Kingsland is the largest paid King's Day festival in the Netherlands. Each year it is held at five locations across the country.
