Amersfoort just about ready to receive Royals on King's Day

After months of preparations, King's Day is only one day away and Amersfoort is just about ready to receive King Willem-Alexander and his family on his birthday. The city center, which the Royals will tour through on Saturday, is covered in flags and the final stages are being built along the route, Metro Nieuws reports.

Visitors cannot miss the fact that an event is taking place. Orange flags, especially designed for King's Day, are hanging everywhere in the city. Lampposts are covered with flags bearing the logo for the festivities. Bright yellow signs with instructions point out the way to go, which streets are closed and when, and where to park.

NS did their best to give the station in the city a festive appearance. The information kiosk has taken the form of the Golden Carriage, and the sliding doors at the exit now bear pictures of a prince and princess who kiss each other when the doors close. People who come to Amersfoort by public transit, can use the bus transport in the city for free on Saturday, according to the newspaper.

Amersfoort residents and businesses have also been getting into the King's Day spirit. Illustrator Tessa Kaizer created a children's book for the occasion titled Oranjekriebels in Amersfoort. Amersfoort brewers from Rock City brewed a beer called Ik, Willem. Tons of souvenirs will be available on the day.

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and their daughter Princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane are expected to arrive in the city at 11:00 a.m. Their procession through the old city center, speckled with events and presentations, will take around two hours, ending on Eemplein at around 1:00 p.m.

The weather is expected to be cool and windy, with maybe some rain. Maximums around 13 degrees are expected.
