Snow expected to bring flight cancellations, busy rush hour on Tuesday

The Netherlands is expected to get its first proper snowfall of this winter on Tuesday. This could cause cancellations for flights from, to or through Amsterdam, KLM warns. Heavy traffic is also expected during rush hour on Tuesday morning and evening, NU.nl reports.

Winter precipitation will move across the Netherlands from west to east on Tuesday, starting in the southwest of the country around 8:00 a.m., according to Weerplaza. Between 1 and 3 centimeters of snow is expected, with some places maybe getting up to 5 centimeters. Weerplaza expects many traffic problems on the roads, especially during the already busy Tuesday morning rush hour.

Schiphol says it is expecting a busy day, with a possibility of delays due to the snow forecast on Tuesday. KLM advises passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

A spokesperson for ProRail told NU.nl that the rail manager is currently keeping a close eye on the weather forecasts for Tuesday. Whether ProRail will have to take any measures, is not yet clear.

The snowfall is expected to start in Gelderland around 1:00 p.m., and in Noord-Brabant, Overijssel, Drenthe and Groningen sometime between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
