Two fireworks deaths, multiple wounded during Netherlands NYE2018

Two people died during the Netherlands' New Year's celebrations last night. A man was killed in an explosion in Enschede. And in the Friesland town of Morra, a person was killed in a fireworks incident, according to the police.

The police responded to Gerstraat in Enschede shortly after midnight. At the scene they found a deceased man. "He likely died as a result of a fireworks explosion", the Enschede police said on Twitter. The police are investigating and call on witnesses to come forward.

Another person was killed in what the police believe was a fireworks accident in Morra on Monday night. The incident happened on Achterwei. Exactly what happened is not yet clear. The police are investigating.

Multiple people were also injured by fireworks during the turning of the year. In The Hague a person was hit by a thrown firework while he was running out of a burning home, according to NU.nl. The victim's current condition is unknown.

In Breda two children were hurt in a fireworks related accident, BN De Stem reports. A firework shattered a window near them. Exactly what happened here is not yet clear. According to the newspaper, the police took someone in for questioning.

There was an enormous explosion in a home on Sint Petrus Canisiuslaan in Eindhoven. According to Omroep Brabant, a firework was thrown into the home and ended up in a pile of other fireworks. No one was injured.

In addition to fireworks incidents, there were also a large number of stabbing incidents, including in Breda, Rotterdam, Riddererk, Amsterdam and Leiden, broadcaster NOS reports. As far as is known, no one was killed in these incidents.
