Law changes 2019: Consumers

The Dutch government is implementing a number of law changes on January 1st. Below find a summary of changes made in the category Consumers.

A VAT increase will hit all goods currently taxed at 6 percent. Items like museum entrance, theater tickets, attraction passes, groceries, water, books, and hair salon services will now have a 9 percent sales tax rate.

The price of passports can rise by an additional €6.07, but the cost and increase is set by the municipality where the passport is ordered. That makes the maximum price €71.37 for an adult's passport, and €53.97 for kids. Other ID cards will face a similar rise to just under €57 for grownups, and €30 for children. An additional fee may be added for urgent situations. More information can be found here.

The fee on all electricity connections will fall from €373.33 to €311.62 (including sales tax).

Natural gas users will see a €0.0363 rise in the fee they pay per cubic meter of gas (including sales tax).
