Two students rescued from construction crane in Leiden
Emergency services in Leiden rescued two students from a construction crane during the early hours of Monday morning. The two young men were stuck in the crane on a construction site on Wassenaarsweg. Passersby reported them to the police at around 1:30 a.m., NU.nl reports.
Why they climbed into the crane, and why they couldn't get back down themselves, is not clear. Both the police and fire brigade responded to the scene. The street was closed down.
The fire brigade first tried to get the students out using a ladder on a firetruck, but failed because the ladder was too short. Police officers and firefighters then climbed up themselves and helped the students down.
The two students were back on solid ground at around 2:30 a.m. After being examined by paramedics at the scene, they were taken to a police station for questioning.
