Police call for footage of Rotterdam shooting that left man, 64, critically hurt

The Rotterdam police are urgently looking for footage of a shooting on the corner of Oudedijk and Willem Ruyslaan on Wednesday morning. A 64-year-old man from Rotterdam was critically injured in the shooting. "Footage from surveillance cameras and mobile phone videos are very welcome", the police said in a statement.

The shooting happened around 10:55 a.m. A man fired multiple shots at the victim, who was sitting in a silver-gray Volkswagen Polo with a passenger. The Rotterdam man was critically injured, the passenger unharmed.

The gunman fled on a scooter down Oudedijk in the direction of Kralingse Zoom. At the crossing of Oudedijk and 's-Gravenweg, the gunman caused an accident and fled further on foot. The police believe the perpetrator was injured in the crash. "Possibly he walked with a limp in the direction of Kralingse Zoom." Despite an extensive search, also involving a helicopter, the perpetrator is still at large.

In addition to footage of the incident, the police are also looking for footage recorded before the incident. "The police take into account that the perpetrator was in the area of Willem Ruyslaan and Lusthofstraat for hours before the incident." The perpetrator is a dark-skinned man with a beard. He has a stout posture and is around 1.8 meters tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a black helmet.

According to newspaper AD, the victim is a Rotterdam resident of Chinese descent, who has a criminal record.

The perpetrator used an automatic weapon in the shooting, an eyewitness said to the newspaper. "He aimed the machine gun at the driver, but the weapon wouldn't fire. Tick, tick, tick, we heard. The man fiddled with the weapon for a moment and then aimed on the car again. Then we heard bang, bang, bang and we knew it was real. How many bullets were fired, I do not know. A whole series in any case."
