Delays expected at Utrecht CS due to protesting cops
People traveling through Utrecht Central Station on Monday morning should take delays into account due to police officers protesting for a better collective bargaining agreement, according to the police unions. Between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the police will construct cordons around the station in a labor action they call "danger zone", NU.nl reports.
Travelers will only be able to enter and leave the station through these cordons. This will cause delays, according to police unions ACP, NPB, ANPV an VMHP.
The municipality of Utrecht believes that the police action will not cause any inconvenience to the public, saying it made agreements with the trade unions to ensure this.
Police officers have been protesting for a better collective bargaining agreement for weeks. On Tuesday they will protest around the first parliamentary meeting after the summer vacation in The Hague, and on Wednesday they will put Amsterdam city center on "lock down".
Over the past weeks the police officers also stopped writing traffic fines, stopped collecting fines, and deleted photos from speeding cameras so that speeders can't be fined. The labor actions also include not deploying police officers to major events, like the Outdoor Decibel festival last month. And the unions called on officers working at the police's information desk to reduce their activities.
