Summer storm less severe than expected
A summer storm that blew across the Netherlands overnight was less severe than the weather services expected. Meteorological institute KNMI withdrew its code orange weather warning for very strong winds just after 11:30 p.m., earlier than expected, RTL Nieuws reports.
On the west coast the winds never picked up to storm strength, though it did on the IJsselmeer just after 10:00 p.m. In some places, including Lelystad, Nunspeet, Papendrecht and Werkendam, there were reports of fallen trees. As far as is known, no one was injured in the stormy weather.
In a strip from the east of Noord-Brabant to the east of Friesland and to Groningen, many places got between 20 and 30 millimeters of rain, causing some flooded streets. 47 millimeters fell in Elburg.
The weather expectations for Friday are cooler and calmer. There will be a mix of sun and clouds, with a chance of some showers. Maximums will range from 19 degrees on the northwest coast to 22 degrees in the southeast, according to the KNMI. Over the weekend, the weather will dry up and heat up again.
