NS plans night train from Amsterdam Centraal

Dutch rail company NS and its Austrian counterpart OBB are planning to put the night train back into service in the Netherlands. They want the train, that's equipped with beds for passengers to sleep in during their journey, to depart from Amsterdam Centraal and connect to the European network of night trains, NU.nl reports.

OBB already runs a night train to Dusseldorf. The rail companies want to extend the route to include Amsterdam. They are currently looking into whether OBB has enough trains that are suitable for the Dutch railways, and whether there is enough interest among travelers.

The night train will help the railway compete with airlines by "being an excellent alternative for long-distance journeys", according to NS. "And also because of the experience: the romance of traveling through the night has great appeal. It is also comfortable, you don't lose time and it saves a hotel stay."
