NatGeo readying documentary into MH17 flight disaster

National Geographic show Air Crash Investigation will broadcast a documentary on the flight MH17 disaster on March 4th.

For the documentary, the makers of the show spoke with relatives of victims, and employees of the Dutch Safety Board, which handled part of the investigation into the crash, according to broadcaster NOS. The episode will show reconstructions of the flight and the investigation. The question of who is responsible for downing the Malaysia Airlines flight, will not be discussed.

Foundation Vliegramp MH17, which represents family members of the victims, and representatives of the Dutch Safety Board and Public Prosecution Service already watched the episode. "We knew that the episode was made and we asked for a preview", Piet Ploeg of Vliegram MH17 said to NOS. "We wanted to know if everything in the program was correct and how big the impact would be for the next of kin." A few scenes were changed at the relatives' request. Such as a scene showing the public transit card of one of the victims. The victim's name and photo was clearly visible.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17th, 2014. All 298 people on board the plane were killed, including 196 Dutch. So far investigation revealed that the Boeing 777 was shot down by a BUK missile system, fired from a field in Ukraine that was under the control of pro-Russian separatists at the time. Investigators also managed to track the transport of the BUK missile from Russia to the field and back.
