One killed, one rescued in storage container accident
A staff member of a sports center in Lochem died and a colleague was injured when they were trapped inside a sea container. The box was used to store compressed wood biomass pellets for the swimming pool heating system there.
Emergency rescue crews responded to De Beemd in Lochem. Firefighters broke open the container and rescued the two unwell workers.
For one of the workers the assistance came too late. His colleague is now recovering in the hospital. The identity of the victims is still unknown.
The mayor of Lochem, Sebastiaan van 't Erve, told RTL Nieuws, "I'm in close contact with the management of the sports center to support them in this loss, and help with the care of the other workers. I wish all the best to the hospitalized worker".
After the accident the swimming pool and the whole sports center De Beemd were kept closed.
