British Airways plane makes emergency landing at Schiphol

A British Airline plane on its way to London made an emergency landing at Schiphol Airport on Tuesday night. Emergency services responded to the airport en masse because of a report that one or more of the plane's engines failed, local broadcaster NH Nieuws reports. The plane landed safely.

The Airbus A321 was on its way to Heathrow Airport in London. Exactly what caused the problems with the engines is unclear.

On Twitter travelers on the flight, BA433, complained that they had nowhere to go - they couldn't get hold of British airways, and apparently no new flight or hotels were arranged for them. Some report that the plane's engine caught fire.

According to newspaper AD, British Airways replied to tweets saying that customers must keep their receipts for additional food or drinks they purchased while waiting at Schiphol.

@British_Airways pathetic treatment to passengers after engine caught fire. We have to book both hotel and flight ourselves. Flight #BA433
