Three drownings on last hot day of summer

Tropical weather in the Netherlands on Tuesday sent many people to the water to cool down. This did not work out well for everyone. At least three people drowned while swimming on Tuesday.

A 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a pond in the Henri Dunantpark in Eindhoven on Tuesday afternoon. Police divers took his body out of the water around 2:00 p.m. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

A young man in his twenties disappeared underwater in the Gelderland recreational area Eiland van Maruik around 6:00 p.m., the Telegraaf reports. Emergency services and other visitors to the park searched for the man. He was taken out of the water about 45 minutes after he disappeared and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the man was not revealed. The police are looking for witnesses.

Another man disappeared under water in recreational lake Schaartven in Overloon on Tuesday night, according to the Gelderlander. He was swimming with friends and never came out of the water. He hasn't been found yet. Fire department divers started searching for him again around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the newspaper, the victim is believed to be a Polish man who lived in Venray.

The meteorological autumn starts on Friday. The last two days of summer will not hold optimal swimming weather, with rain and cooler temperatures expected, according to Weeronline. Afternoon temperatures on Wednesday will range from 18 degrees in the northwestern parts of the country to around 26 degrees in Limburg. Thursday will be even cooler with maximum temperatures ranging from 17 degrees in the north to 19 degrees in the south.
