Aggressive dog attacks in Rotterdam park; 8-year-old seriously injured

An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured when an aggressive dog attacked her in a park in Rotterdam on Wednesday. A 69-year-old man from Rotterdam, who was walking the dog at the time, was arrested, AD reports.

The girl was playing with friends in a park on Hundsonstraat when the dog grabbed her. The dog bit the child's arm, and refused to let go. A bystander managed to free the girl by hitting the dog with a stick and a tile.

The child was rushed to a hospital for treatment. She is doing well under the circumstances, the police said on Thursday.

The 69-year-old man was taken to a police station for questioning. There he became unwell and also had to go to the hospital. He is still a suspect.

The dog was confiscated and taken to a shelter. What breed of dog was involved is not clear.
