Three new int'l schools opening in Amsterdam area this year

In an effort to accompany the increasing number of expats settling in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam is improving access to international education. Three new international schools are opening in te Amsterdam area before the start of the new school year in September, and a number of existing schools are expanding, IN Amsterdam announced in a press release.

Last month concerns were raised about the waiting lists at international schools in the Netherlands deterring highly skilled expats from settling here. IN Amsterdam, the former expat center, hopes that this will help reduce waiting lists at international schools.

Two new private schools are opening in Amstelveen in September. The Florencius International School and the Amity International School Amsterdam. Florencius will accommodate 50 students. Amity will initially only be a primary school, but plans to expand to secondary education and be able to accommodate 500 international students by 2021.

The third new school will open in Haarlem on September 4th. According to IN Amsterdam, the International School Haarlem still has a few spots open for group 6/7. And once major renovations to the school's building are completed in January, a total of 120 new places will become available.

A number of existing international schools are also expanding to offer space for a total of 900 extra students. Expansions are happening at, among others, the International Primary School and International School Almere, Amsterdam International Community School, International Primary School Hilversum and International School Hilversum.

With the opening of the three new school, the Amsterdam area will have a total of 13 international schools.
