Hospital guards suspected in patient's death

Two security guards at the Zuyderland Hospital in Geleen are suspected in the death of a 37-year-old man from Heerlen. The man died on Friday after an altercation with the guards, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor confirmed to ANP on Monday.

The seemingly disturbed man walked through the hospital's central hall last week Sunday and was confronted by the security officers. They asked what he was doing, and he responded aggressively. The security guards subdued him.

When the police arrived at the scene, the man had become unwell. He died in hospital on Friday.

The Public Prosecutor is investigating what happened. An autopsy will be done on the Heerlen man's body on Monday. Both security officers were questioned, but are not in custody.
