Man arrested for flying drone at Schiphol

A 35-year-old man from Haarlem was arrested by the Koninklijke Marechaussee for flying a drone at Schiphol Airport. Flying drones near the airport is forbidden, as it can put air traffic in danger, ANP reports.

With the increasing use of drones, the rules of where they can and cannot be used also increased. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment published a map showing the areas where drone flying is banned.

In March a Ukrainian man was fined for flying a drone in Schiphol's departure hall. In the first half of last year, a total of 31 reports were made about recreational drones flying near airports in the country, 24 were at Schiphol, according to the news wire.

The Koninklijke Marechaussee is a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military and is responsible for border security, including at airports and ports.
