Netherlands too slow to assist crucial Dutch businesses of cyberattacks

Dutch businesses are poorly aware of and prepared for cyberattacks, the Cyber Security Council warned on Wednesday. The Netherlands must take immediate action to make sure businesses have the necessary information to protect themselves against digital threats, the Council said, according to ANP.

Only the government and organizations that are essential to daily life - banks and suppliers of electricity, water and gas - currently exchange important information about digital threats. Other businesses are left in the dark. The Council called on the relevant ministries, police and judiciary to make sure that such information is shared.

The Council also advocates for a Digital Trust Center to be established. This can act as information center. It must also become easier to report cybercrime. The council worries that because the current reporting system is too complex, only the tip of the cybercrime-iceberg in the Netherlands is visible.
