Gay couples better at splitting tasks than heterosexual families

Same sex couples are better at splitting paid and unpaid work between partners than their heterosexual counterparts, according to a report by social and cultural planning office SCP. Lesbian couples in particular divide household duties more fairly than traditional households, RTL reports.

It seems that same sex couples find it easier to break with traditional role patterns. For example, women in lesbian couples are more active on the labor market than heterosexual women. In same sex couples, both partners work about an equal amount of hours a week. They also find it more important to contribute equally to their income.

SCP found that the interviewed lesbian, gay and bisexual people have more progressive views than their heterosexual counterparts. They less often agreed with the statement that women are better suited to care for needy family members, for example.
