One killed in Utrecht stabbing; attacker on the loose

One person was seriously injured in a stabbing on Wijnesteinlaan in Hoograven, Utrecht on Wednesday morning. The victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance, according to AD.

The stabbing happened around 10:15 a.m. on the bicycle path between a school and the Marcuscentrum. An air ambulance and two regular ambulances responded to the scene. The victim was stabbed from behind, according to the newspaper. A bicycle believed to belong to the victim is still at the scene.

Shortly after the incident the police called on local residents to keep an eye out for a suspect. The suspect is a man with lightly tanned skin and short dark hair, the police said on Burgernet. He was wearing a sand-colored shirt and jeans.

Police officers in bulletproof vests are searching the area for the suspect.

The school is empty due to the May vacation. The police are questioning witnesses and call on more to come forward.
