Rabobank could move ATMs from populated areas after bomb blast robberies

Rabobank is considering removing ATMs from populated areas following a series of ATM bombings in the Netherlands. An investigation into which ATMs form a risk to local residents was launched two weeks ago an accelerated after an ATM bombing in Doetinchem on Monday. The bank is particularly looking at ATMs that have people living next to or above it, the Gelderlander reports.

"We have to weigh the interests", Wendy Verlaan, CEO of Rabobank Graafschap in Doetinchem said to the newspaper. "This involves the interest in being able to draw money compared to the importance of ensuring the safety of local residents."

Doetinchem was shocked awake by a blast on Monday morning when a Rabobank ATM was blown open at a shopping center on Haareweg. Six homes were evacuated after the authorities discovered that the ATM bombers left explosives behind. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called in to remove the explosives.
