SWAT team arrests man in asylum center fire in Brabant town

A SWAT team arrested a 28-year-old asylum seeker after he set two small fires in the asylum center in the Brabant town of Grave on Sunday, NU.nl reports.

The fires started around 7:00 p.m. A police spokesperson confirmed to NU.nl that the a 28-year-old resident of the asylum center was arrested on suspicion of arson.

According to the police, the man first started a fire on the second floor of one of the asylum center buildings. He then barricaded himself in a kitchen, where he started another fire. As he refused to leave the building, a SWAT team went in and arrested him. Five minutes later, the fire department had the fires under control.

The man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The other residents of the asylum center were evacuated while emergency services dealt with the fire. They were all able to spend the night in the asylum center, according to a spokesperson for the central agency for the reception of asylum seekers COA.
