Theo van Gogh killer trashes prison kitchen over prisoner placements

Mohammed B., currently serving a life sentence in the high security prison in Vught for the 2004 murder of Theo van Gogh, barricaded himself in the prison's kitchen on Wednesday and trashed it. He was angry because he found out that two men who carried out a terrorist attack on a mosque in Enschede last year were placed in the same prison wing as two Muslim women, NOS reports.

On Wednesday B. demanded a meeting with the prison management to discuss the situation. When his demand was not met immediately, he lost it, barricaded himself in the kitchen and "smashed it to smithereens", relatives of one of the other prisoners said to the broadcaster.

According to Metro Nieuws, the two men in question threw a Molotov cocktail at a mosque in Enschede last year while there were about 40 people, including kids, inside. The people inside managed to extinguish the fire quickly, so there was not a lot of damage, and no one was injured.

The court ruled that this constituted a terrorist attack and sentenced the men to four years in prison. They were placed in the terrorist wing of the high security prison. Two Muslim women are also imprisoned on this wing.

The Ministry of Security and Justice confirmed that a prisoner destroyed a kitchen in the prison, but would not confirm whether it was in fact Mohammed B. "He did not agree with the placement of fellow prisoners." Punitive measures were taken against him.

The prisoners in the terrorism wing of the Vught prison have very little contact with each other, to avoid further radicalization.
