Woman convicted in "Facebook Murder" released from prison

Polly W., one of three suspects in the so-called Facebook Murder that happened in Arnhem in 2012, was released from juvenile detention by the court in Arnhem on Tuesday. The court ruled that further treatment in the juvenile facility is no longer necessary and that the now 21-year-old woman can go free, but under strict conditions, AD reports.

Five years ago Polly W. and her ex-boyfriend Wesley C. planned the murder of then 15-year-old Joyce Hau after Hau gossiped about W.'s adventures with boys on Facebook. The two called in suspect number three Jinhau K., who stabbed the 15-year-old girl in the doorway of her parents' home. She died in hospital a few days later.

W. and C. were both sentenced to two years in juvenile detention and institutionalized psychiatric care. On Tuesday the court of Arnhem ruled that W. can be released. According to the court, the psychiatric treatment had a positive impact on the woman. The Prosecutor agreed. W. must adhere to a wide range of conditions, however, including an area ban for Arnhem and a ban on having contact with her two accomplices.

Earlier in February Wesley C. was also released. According to the court, over the past five years he "demonstrated clear positive growth". He can handle responsibility and freedom and also has work. The risk of recurrence is small, the court said.

The third suspect, Jinhau K. is now 19 years old and is still under institutionalized psychiatric care. The court recently extended his care.
