Arrested Tilburg man amazed by commotion surrounding his sandwich

A 25-year-old man from Tilburg who was arrested on Wednesday after eating a sandwich on a bus, is astounded by the commotion that arose around him and his sandwich, he said on RTL Late Night.

Thirteen police officers responded to a bus driver reporting that he felt unsafe after the young Tilburg man refused to discard his sandwich. A bystander filmed the man's arrest and posted it online.

"I could have handled things differently", the man said in response being asked whether he could not just discard the sandwich. "But that amount of commotion I really did not expect."

Crime journalist Peter R. de Vries was also surprised by the number of police officers who responded to deal with a sandwich. "Such a display of power is unbelievable", he said on the show. "Someone should have called that this was about nothing. Ti was really overwhelming. So unbelievable. It almost seemed like an urban legend story."
