Amsterdam police officer stabbed in the neck

A patrolling police officer was stabbed in the neck on Amsterdam's Rembrandtplein around 00:25 a.m. on Sunday, the police said in a statement. The motive for the stabbing is still very unclear, according to the police. the first witness statements indicate that there was no contact between the officer and his attacker before the stabbing.

The officer was rushed to the hospital after the stabbing. The wound in his neck was stitched up and he has since been sent home to recover.

A suspect was arrested shortly after the stabbing. He is in custody for questioning. The suspect's identity is still unclear, according to the police.

The police are calling on witnesses to come forward and on anyone who took pictures or video of the incident to submit them to the police.
