British airline worker found dead on Amsterdam railway

A young British man was found dead on railway track between Schiphol airport and Amsterdam on Monday, according to British newspapers The Sun and ECHO. The victim, Michael Moran from Liverpool, was reported missing the day before.

A spokesperson for the Dutch police confirmed to Liverpool Echo that a body was found on the railway on Monday and that it was the body of a Brit who was missing since the day before. The spokesperson said it was "more than likely" that the man had been hit by a train. His death is under investigation.

According to Dutch newspaper PZC, the 23-year-old Moran was in Amsterdam with a friend and the two lost track of each other. He was reported missing on Sunday when he did not show up for a flight. He worked for airline Emirates.

The Dutch police did not release an official statement on the discovery of the body.

Rail company NS reported train delays between Schiphol and Amsterdam on Monday after 9am due to a collision between a train and a person. It's not yet known if that is related to Moran, but it was the only accident involving a train and a pedestrian on that stretch of track reported by the NS on Jan. 2. A person was also struck by a train that night between Hoorn and Obdan.
