Over 1,800 kg illegal fireworks seized in Rotterdam area; four arrested

The Rotterdam police found and seized 1,800 kilograms of illegal fireworks after raids in Hoogvliet and Wezep on Wednesday morning. Four people were arrested, the police announced.

The raids were the result of a months-long investigation triggered by the arrest of two minors in Spijkenisse a few months ago. The two kids were in possession of illegal fireworks. Extensive investigation led the police to the two addresses in Hoogvliet and Wezep.

At both addresses the police found a bus loaded with illegal fireworks. The fireworks were immediately confiscated. In Wezep a 53-year-old man from Amersfoort and a 41-year-old man from Leusden were arrested. In Hoogvliet the police arrested a 42-year-old man from Spijkenisse and a 52-year-old man from Hoogvliet.

All four suspects are in custody for further investigation.
