Winter solstice brings Netherlands scattered showers

Today is the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, in the Northern hemisphere. The Netherlands will only have 7 hours and 40 minutes of daylight. And according to meteorological institute KNMI, the Netherlands can expect clouds and scattered showers today.

The rainy weather will start in the west and northwest of the country on Wednesday morning and slowly spread throughout the entire country. Maximum temperatures will range between 3 degrees in the northeastern parts of the Netherlands to 5 degrees along the coast and in the southeast. There will be a moderate to strong southeasterly wind.

According to Weeronline, 11:44 a.m. on Wednesday marks the start of astronomical winter, though the weather does not seem to have realized this. The coming days will be unseasonably mild, with maximum temperatures of up to 13 degrees expected for Christmas day.
