Three arrested in Breda men's kidnapping

The police made a breakthrough in the case surrounding the kidnapping of Gino Heeren and Rien de Koning from a car dealership in Breda on December 29th last year. Three new suspects were arrested on Tuesday. The 38-year-old man from Oosterhout, 39-year-old man from Breda and 27-year-old woman from Enschede are officially suspected of involvement in the kidnappings, AD reports.

A police spokesperson would not say what exact role these new detainees are suspected of playing in the role. Nor would he say anything about how they are connected to two previously arrested suspects - Alex B. from Chaam and Zoubir F. from Sint Willebrord. He did confirm that the woman was previously arrested in this investigation, but then released again.

The kidnapped men, then 18 and 42 years old, spent several days handcuffed under horrid conditions in a warehouse in Ulicoten. They managed to free themselves and escape on New Year's Eve. A 90 thousand euro ransom was demanded for them, but as far as is known, that was never paid.

The police believe that the two men were kidnapped because of a cannabis deal that went wrong. Gino's grandfather may have played a role - he was often in trouble with the law over drug offenses in the past and was part of the York gang in the 90's.
