Restaurants, Cafes see revenues leap as economy improves

The hospitality sector is feeling the Netherlands' improving economy. In the third quarter, the turnover for hotels, restaurants, snack bars and cafes increased 2.6 percent compared to the previous sector, Statistics Netherlands revealed on Wednesday. Compared to the third quarter of last year, the hospitality sector saw 8.8 percent of growth.

This is the biggest turnover increase in this sector since 2007, according to Statistics Netherlands.

Restaurants and cafes saw the biggest turnover growth, with 3.5 and 3.4 percent respectively compared to the previous quarter. The growth in cafes and restaurants was also bigger than in the first half of the year.

Snack bars, lunch rooms, fast food restaurants, ice cream parlors and meal delivery services together saw a turnover growth of 2.7 percent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter.

Hotels saw a sales growth of 0.2 percent.
