ProRail to build temp. road around site of Winsum train derailment

Rail manager ProRail is building a temporary road around an unguarded crossing in Winsum where a train derailed after crashing with a milk truck earlier this month. ProRail and the farmer who owns the land reached an agreement for the temporary road, NU.nl reports.

The temporary road will be built as soon as possible. It is about 600 meters long and will run next to the tracks, directing road users to a nearby supervised crossing.

On November 18th, an Arriva train collided with a milk truck at that unguarded crossing, causing the train to derail. A total of 18 people were injured, three of whom seriously. The truck driver escaped unharmed.
