Train traffic restarts after Winsum derailment

Train traffic between Groningen and Roodeschool resumed around 5:00 a.m. this morning after being halted the entire weekend. No train travel was possible on that route due to an Arriva train that derailed at an ungaurded railway crossing in Winsum after crashing with a milk truck on Friday.

A total of 18 people were injured in the accident, according to RTL Nieuws. Three of them sustained serious injuries.

Rail manager ProRail worked hard through the weekend to make the necessary repairs for train traffic to resume. Matrix signs will be placed at the crossing in question to warn that it may be dangerous. Until this is done, ProRail will deploy a traffic regulator to the spot.
