Dutch suspect denies gouging man's eyes out in Brussels

Idriss A., the 33-year-old Dutch man arrested in Brussels on Sunday night for involvement in a fight in which another man's eyes were gouged out, denies that he injured the victim, his lawyer said in the court in Brussels on Thursday, ANP reports.

"My client admits that he fought with the victims, but denies that he gouged his eyes out", the lawyer said, according to the news wire. "Who did it is unclear."

The fight happened on Saturday night. Victim Moustapha Hassan, 33, lost his eyes in the fight. He was found on the street later that night and rushed to the hospital. According to the news wire, he is in a stable condition.

A. was arrested in a hospital on Sunday. He previously stated that he can't say for certain that he didn't goug the victim's eyes out. On Monday the judge decided he will remain in custody.
