Police investigate baby's death in Cuijk

The police are investigating the death of a baby in an apartment on Parallelweg in Cuijk on Tuesday night. The baby became unwell while emergency services were in the home helping the mother. Attempts to resuscitate the child were to no avail, AD reports.

The mother was taken to hospital by ambulance. Exactly why she called for help is unclear. Her condition is also unknown.

The police are investigating the baby's death because "the circumstances give rise to" an investigation, a spokesperson said to the newspaper. He could not say what the circumstances were. So far no information was released regarding the gender or age of the child.

According to the Gelderlander, a forensic team was investigating in the home until around 11:40 p.m. The police spokesperson could not say whether anyone else was in the apartment, except for mother and child. All scenarios are being considered, the police said on Twitter.

A 45-year-old man was murdered in the same apartment building last month. A 28-year-old man was arrested. According to the Gelderlander, he is still in custody.
