Amsterdam cracks down on illegal rentals during ADE

Amsterdam is cracking down on illegal vacation rentals during the Amsterdam Dance Event, which kicked off on Wednesday night and is on until Sunday. The city set up a hotline where residents can report suspicions of illegal rentals.

From today until Sunday Amsterdam residents can call the number 14020 if they suspect someone is renting their home to tourists illegally. The caller will be transferred to a team of enforcers who will visit the address if the report is considered well grounded. The hotline is open between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. every day.

"The Amsterdam Dance Event attracts many visitors from the Netherlands and abroad who want to spend the night in Amsterdam. Illegal vacation rentals lurk. I therefore urge all inhabitants of Amsterdam to call the hotline if they experience nuisance of suspected illegal vacation rentals." housing alderman Laurens Ivens said in a press statement.

Amsterdam residents are allowed to rent out their homes to tourists, but only under strict conditions. This includes that a home is not allowed to be rented out for more than 60 days a year and to no more than four people at a time. If an apartment falls under Homeowners Association, the association must approve the rentals.
