Over 400 kilos of fireworks confiscated in traffic check

The police discovered 419 kilograms of fireworks in a car during a traffic check in Ochten during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The 48-year-old driver was arrested. The man was taken to a police station for questioning. Further investigation revealed that the fireworks are legal fireworks, the police said in a statement. The Dutch police often find illegal fireworks in the months prior to New Year's. The police warn that illegal fireworks are not inspected or tested. This means, for example, that the wick could burn to fast and the firework can explode in your hand. Or the bang cold be too loud and cause permanent hearing damage. Both selling and buying illegal fireworks is punishable in the Netherlands.
