Plot to poison Lidl customers in Germany, Netherlands exposed

German supermarket chain Lidl was extorted for 15 million euros during the last months of 2015, EenVandaag reported on Monday. If the company did not pay, the perpetrator threatened to poison its products, including in branches in the Netherlands. EenVandaag has correspondence between Lidl and the perpetrator in its possession. It shows that Lidl was willing to pay 4.5 million euros to the perpetrator. But the perpetrator backed out at the last minute, demanding the money in bitcoins instead. At this point Lidl broke contact. Lidl Netherlands would say little about the case. "We're sorry that this is in the media while the case is still under investigation. We will not respond any further on things being revealed", a spokesperson said. The police are still looking for the perpetrator.
