Railway worker killed in overnight train accident
A railway worker was killed in an accident with a train near Meteren around 00:30 a.m. on Thursday, a spokesperson for ProRail confirmed to the Gelderlander.
The man was working on the tracks when he was hit by a passing train. Emergency services responded and tried to resuscitate the rail worker, but it was to no avail.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear. The police, the Environment and Transport Inspectorate, the Dutch Safety Board and ProRail itself are all investigating.
"ProRail regrets the accident and sympathizes with the family and colleagues of the victim", the spokesperson said to the newspaper.
The accident brought rail traffic between Geldermalsen and Den Bosch to a complete standstill for several hours. Train traffic only resumed around 6:00 a.m.
