Dutch Forensic inst.: Let police do own DNA tests

The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) wants to do an experiment next year in which the police do their own trace evidence investigations with a mobile DNA machine, AD reports. Should this experiment be a success, it could enable the police to obtain DNA results much faster. "IN some cases, such as murder, it may be important to get a DNA profile as quickly as possible", Saskia Verheij of the NFI said to the newspaper. At this stage, the portable DNA machine can not be taken to crime scenes. But it will be set up at a forensic location for the police. The machine analyzes trace evidence and sends a DNA profile to the NFI. An NFI employee then creates a report with the findings.
