Man killed in accident with Amsterdam police van

A 34-year-old man died in hospital on Wednesday after he got into an accident with a police van in Amsterdam. The man was cycling on Nassaukade on Tuesday night when he was hit by the police van, NU.nl reports. A spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor told the news site that the case is still under investigation. He could not say whether the police were responding to a crime at the time of the accident. It is also unclear whether the police car's sirens and lights were on. The Rijksrecherche, the unit that handles internal investigations at the police, is investigating the accident.
