Amsterdam coffeeshop targeted in drive-by shooting
A coffeeshop on the corner of Achillesstraat and Tuyll van Serooskerkenweg was the target of a drive-by shooting during the early hours of Wednesday morning, Het Parool reports.
No one was injured in the shooting. The police launched an investigation. The perpetrators are still at large.
Residents that live around the coffeeshop, called DNA, told AT5 that they heard shots around 4:30 a.m.
This is the second shooting at DNA this year, according to Het Parool. In May someone opened fire on the business, sending the four people present fleeing into the bathroom. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan decided to temporarily close the coffeeshop in the interest of public safety. It opened again on August 10th.
After the first shooting the owner of DNA speculated that the shooting was an easy way to eliminate a competitor.
DNA is not the only Amsterdam coffeeshop to be targeted in shootings. In May coffeeshop multiple shots were fired at coffeeshop Jabba the Hutt in Amsterdam-Zuid. De Kroon in Amsterdam-Zuid was shot at in January and The Power on Sarphatistraat was targeted in February. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan decided to shut them down indefinitely. In November last year coffeeshops on Krugerstraat and Gerard Dousraat were the targets of drive-by shootings.
